Character Trait – Kind - of a sympathetic or helpful nature.

What We Are Working On:

Science:  We are between kits and so have been learning about Earth’s 4 spheres:  biosphere, geosphere,  hydrosphere, and atmosphere.  We have done a couple activities of looking at scenarios of interactions between these spheres.  Students have also been reading the story about Lucky the Tyee, a chinook salmon and finding the interactions Lucky they Tyee has with the different spheres.  The story is about the journey a female salmon makes down the river, into the estuary, out to the ocean and then back up the river at the end of her life.  We received 250 chinook salmon eggs right after winter break and they are looking great!  They are at the fry stage of the life cycle.  Our release field trip is scheduled for April 30, which also includes a visit to the Terrace Heights Landfill. 

Writing: Students practiced writing an opinion letter after their experience at BizTown.  They either chose to write to a volunteer, supporting their opinion that BizTown was an awesome learning experience or to Mrs. Crowston, supporting their opinion that BizTown was not a great use of his/her learning time.  They will be given another opinion writing opportunity concerning our impact on salmon.
